How To Book a Gals/Group Holiday.

This doesn’t just have to be a gals holiday, it can be applied to booking any other adventure but I came across these little tips and tricks whilst booking a holiday with my friends.

The main things you need to think about when booking a holiday with a group of people are these factors;

Budget – Are you all on the same wave length for budgets?

Location – where do you want to go that will cater for all the group?

Dates – when is everyone free? Do you want to go at peak times?

Airport – What airport is the easiest/cheapest to fly from?

Trying to make decisions when putting all these factors into place can be quite stressful.

Budget

When booking within a group, knowing how many everyone want to/can spend on a holiday is probably the most important factor.
Work out max budget PP, and go from there. If you book as a group (group booking) then it tends to be a lot cheaper PP.

Location

If there is a large group of you going, then its best to go somewhere that has a bit of everything. One person may want to sit by the pool all day, one may want to snorkel in the sea or one may want to just get pissed and be a fool. I found the perfect locations for this is Tunisia, Benidorm, Ibiza, and Greece. All these locations are all guaranteed sun and fun.

Dates

For me this is the second most important factor when booking a holiday. Do you want to go when the weather is nice but there aren’t many
people around, so may/June or later on in the year September or do you want to go when the party season is in full swing? If you do want to go in peak season, then you have to expect to pay a lot more money. In 2016 we did a girls holiday to Benidorm in early September, temperatures hit mid 30’s, party scene was still in full swing but not too much and the flight/accommodation was a lot cheaper, so for me off peak is perfect.

Airport

This may seem like an obvious one to you, but living in South Wales our local airport is Cardiff Airport, and as it’s a small airport there aren’t many flights that fly to and from there ,so booking flights will always be more expensive. I tend to book flights from Bristol Airport, which is about an hour away from Cardiff but as its bigger and more flights leave there every day it’s a lot cheaper. Obviously if you live near London, then you are very lucky as flights from Luton, Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted, London City and Southend are always at least half the price than most other airports in the UK.

Now that all the nitty gritty details have been worked out, here comes the fun part…BOOKING!

Flights

Sky scanner is a great website/app to research flights. (If you don’t know what that is, check out my blog post here).

TIP: When searching for flights, go incognito. Websites such
as Sky scanner & EasyJet all use cookies. DON’T FALL INTO THE TRAP.

Accommodation

Location, location, location is the most important thing when booking accommodation. It’s all well and good paying £20 a night, but when you have to walk an hour in 30degree heat just to get to the beach/civilization is not ideal.

TIP: Be careful of a security deposit. So many times, I’ve been stood at a reception and they have asked me for a security deposit and me being oblivious. When booking, especially accommodation, read the small print.

  • Airbnb is the best choice for me. If there is a lot of you, the cheaper it will be. You also get a kitchen, so if you’re on a budget. Winner winner.
  • Hotels are great, but only when you find a good deal. I went on a all-inclusive holiday last year and loved it.

First Choice, Virgin Holidays, Thomas Cook and TUI are great for booking all inclusive, half board and self catering holidays.

TIP: Whenever booking flights/accommodation, if you book for the entire group it will always be cheap individually.

Now that you are all booked, all you need to do is learn some of the language to get you by (thank you, hello, goodbye are my go to phrases) and get the cocktail money ready.
(my tips on how to save money for travel are here)

I hope you use some of these tips if you’re booking a
holiday this year!

If so, where are you heading?
